How To Succeed At Golf Pitching And Tips To Get Even Better

By Troy Vayanos - 06/27/09

There's nothing worse than stuffing up what's supposed to be one of the easiest shots in golf. Duffing a simple pitch shot can make even the best players lose their cool. It's frustrating when you find yourself in a position to hit a close shot, only to see the ball fly over the green or watch it travel only half way to the flagstick. Or even worse, watching in shock as the ball goes sideways - turning into the dreaded shank!

To help you with the problems of playing quality pitch shots, check for the following points that may indicate issues you need to work on and fix in your short game.

The Clubface Is Aligned Toward The Left Or The Right

An easy but common mistake made by many golfers. This can result in pulled or pushed shots or even shanks in the most extreme of cases. The best way to fix this problem is to ensure you have the golf club aligned straight first before you make any adjustments with your body.

What I'm saying is find and select your target line and aim your club at it first. Just be sure you are not in a hazard or a bunker. What you do is with your left hand hold the club face in line with your target and then align the rest of your body accordingly. This is one of the most important golf pitching tips you will ever learn.

Don't rush this step because this may very well be all it takes to automatically improve your accuracy with golf pitching. Most often problems with accuracy can be traced back to the golfers set up.

Don't Overlook The Change In Ball Position In Your Stance:

There's a good chance if you are hitting your pitch shots fat the golf ball is too far back in your stance, conversely if you are hitting your pitch shots skinny it is highly likely the golf ball is too far forward in your stance.

The first thing to do if any of the above is happening to you is to check the ball position. Ideally you want it somewhere in the middle of your stance to promote a consistent, straight solid golf shot.

Getting good at hitting pitch shots is not that difficult, just follow the golf pitching tips laid out in this article, and watch your pitch shots improve instantly.
